4-H Membership Across County or State Lines

I. 4-H Project Enrollment

  1. Residential county 4-H membership is most desirable and definitely to be encouraged.
  2. Youth who wish to enroll as 4-H members in counties other than the county of their residence should be made aware of the 4-H clubs and program opportunities in their county and nearby communities.
  3. In the event that youth still want to join a 4-H club in a county other than their county of residence, the agents of the counties involved must agree that the arrangement is in the best interest of the youth and county 4-H program involved.
  4. No boy or girl may undertake or be enrolled as a 4-H member in the same project and/or type of project club in more than one county or state during the same 4-H year.

II. State/National 4-H Program Participation

  1. For state and national 4-H programs involving specific projects (i.e., National Horse Round-up, State 4-H Beef Show and Sale), 4-H’ers enrolled in projects in more than one county will represent the county in which the project is carried.
  2. For other state and national programs (i.e. Public Presentations, National 4-H Conference, CWF, etc.) youth enrolled in projects in more than one county will represent their county of residence.

Note: The policy took effect immediately as of date of approval and revisions. At the time, the policy indicated that youth who had already been enrolled across county lines could remain in current status as long as they were not enrolled in the same project and/or type of project club in more than one county or state during the same year. All situations occurring after effective date were to be handled as per policy above.
