Igniting Your Leadership Potential Certificate in Leadership Development

Igniting Your Leadership Potential Certificate in Leadership Development is a series of online leadership courses offered by the NJ 4‑H Youth Development Program and taught by 4‑H faculty. Youth in grades 8–13 can register for a variety of courses that will provide opportunities to learn about leadership, gain knowledge, sharpen their skills, and prepare to lead. Youth can earn a badge for each course completed and a certificate in Leadership Development after completing four online courses.

Each course meets 1.5 hours per session for four sessions. The cost is $25.00 per course.

The following courses will be offered summer 2022:

The Art of Self Leadership (July 5–14)

Registration Deadline: June 28, 2022

Before we lead others, we must be able to lead ourselves. The Art of Self Leadership focuses on how youth can build character based on integrity and emotional security, develop habits of self-discipline and initiative to achieve goals, and choose their own set of core values for making wise life decisions.

During each class meeting ,we will examine images that represent leadership ideas based on the work of Dr. Tim Elmore and take part in reflect and respond questions, a self-assessment, and an exercise that students can apply to their everyday lives.

Earn a badge in Self Leadership.

This course is scheduled for the following dates:

  • Tues., July 5, 4–5:30 p.m.
  • Thurs., July 7, 4–5:30 p.m.
  • Tues., July 12, 4–5:30 p.m.
  • Thurs., July 14, 4–5:30 p.m.

Youth will log in twice a week for two weeks for a face-to-face session with the instructor and then complete assignments offline.

Growing Your Global Awareness (August 2–11)

Registration Deadline: July 29, 2022

The world is more interconnected and interdependent than ever, and today's youth have ample opportunity to increase their knowledge and awareness of the world as a result. In this course, youth will examine the characteristics that define a global citizen, better understand global citizenship as a concept, reflect on their personal pathway and responsibilities as global citizens, and their participation in the world.

Earn a badge in Global Citizenship upon completion.

This course is scheduled for the following dates:

  • Tues., Aug. 2, 4–5:30 p.m.
  • Thurs., Aug. 4, 4–5:30 p.m.
  • Tues., Aug. 9, 4–5:30 p.m.
  • Thurs., Aug. 11, 4–5:30 p.m.
