Position Title:
New Jersey State 4-H Association Member
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Association is to assist in maintaining and expanding a strong 4-H Youth Development Program in New Jersey. The Association is comprised of adult volunteers representing each county, youth representatives from North Jersey and South Jersey, and ex-officio representatives from various organizations.
Time Commitment
Three daytime meetings per year, usually held in March, June and October on the Cook College Campus in New Brunswick.
Term/Appointment/Selection
Each county shall recommend two representatives and one or more alternates to the State 4-H Office, who will issue an invitation to recommended individuals to attend meetings of the Association. Representatives will be appointed on January 1 for a three-year term and may be re-appointed for a second three-year term.
Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in all Association meetings.
- Share county’s successes, concerns and issues at Association meetings, and communicate information from Association meetings back to county 4-H councils, associations, advisory groups and individuals as appropriate.
- Support Association programs and serve on committees as needed.
Voting Privilege
Each county shall have two voting representatives.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and the 4-H Youth Development Program.
- Ability to communicate the needs of county 4-H volunteers and members, make recommendations and provide advice on program direction.
- Active involvement in and knowledge of county 4-H programs.

Resources Available
State 4-H staff and county 4-H professional staff will be available for support and assistance, and will provide appropriate communication and recognition to committee members.
Relationships
- Association members serve as the liaison between their county 4-H advisory groups and the State 4-H Association, and are responsible for communicating information to both parties.
- Organizational liaisons (i.e., New Jersey Department of Agriculture, New Jersey Association of 4-H Agents, 4-H Development Fund) may assist in developing cooperative programming efforts as appropriate.
- State 4-H Program Coordinator serves as the official liaison from the Department of 4-H Youth Development to the Association, and is responsible for providing overall support to the Association.
- State 4-H staff are responsible for sharing current statewide 4-H program information at Association meetings, and for reporting information generated as a result of State 4-H Association meetings to 4-H department committees and county 4-H professional staff as appropriate.
- County 4-H professional staff are responsible for working with county 4-H advisory groups to identify potential association members and delegates to ensure that each county is represented on the Association.
