4‑H PRKC Self-Assessment - Planning for Professional Development

You are invited to participate in a research study that is being conducted by the National Professional Development Committee, and representatives from the Northeast Region including Rutgers University, the University of Main and the University of Connecticut.

The purpose of this self-assessment is for youth development professionals to utilize the 4-H Professional Research, Knowledge and Competencies (PRKC) framework to better understand what skills and abilities are most important when conducting 4-H youth development work, identifying areas for their own professional improvement and to inform professional development priorities for their work in the field.

The first step of this process is to complete a self-assessment survey. The survey reflects competencies in six domains including Youth Development, Youth Program Development, Volunteerism, Organizational Systems, Access, Equity and Opportunity, and Organizational Systems. Once the survey is complete, you can visit the resources below and complete an individual professional development plan that fits with your professional needs.

Please note, the resource list below is a small sample of professional development opportunities that you can participate in. We will continue to update this resource list based on peer reviewed resources provided in the survey response.

This report (PDF) highlights results from aggregated scores from those that participated in a 2020 self-assessment, including youth development professionals from the Northeast region. This report reflects gaps in perceived competencies.
