Animal Science

The 4-H animal science programs provide a wide variety and depth of educational opportunities for youth from every corner of New Jersey. Most of the programs involve working directly with live animals of all types. Some of the most popular animals in this program area include dogs, cows, goats, horses, pigs, rabbits, and sheep.

Take a closer look at the many opportunities waiting for you in the 4-H animal science programs:

These projects teach:

  1. responsible care and well-being of animals
  2. life skills, such as decision-making and communication skills, through judging events and oral presentations
  3. awareness of the practices in animal agriculture
  4. the safe and appropriate uses of animal products
  5. scientific principles

The 4-H animal science programs allow youth to practice and demonstrate what they learn at numerous supporting activities, such as fairs, judging contests, shows, educational bowls, and presentation contests.
